Alan Sibbit passed away peacefully on Thursday December 4 at 12:50 pm at the Bayonne hospital, near his home in Anglet in the French Basque Country. He was 72 years old. Alan is survived by his wife Pascale, his son Ian and his daughter Catriona.

Alan worked at Schlumberger from March 1975 until March 2016, starting with Wireline in Iran. During his 41 year career Alan worked across Middle East, Africa, Asia, Russia, France, US and Norway, in field operations, engineering and research. He remained active afterwards, consulting for oil companies and service companies.

Gordon Mowat writes:
“It is with profound sadness that I have just learned that my dear friend and colleague of over 45 years, Alan Sibbit died this morning. His wife Pascale was by his side. The sad news came from his son Ian (in Australia) via our mutual friend Kambiz Safinya.

Alan had been fighting the complications of metastatic cancer for some years. I last spoke with him in late August, and he was feeling positive about the treatments he was receiving.”

Kambiz wrote:
“Alan was known to many of us as a very competent petrophysicist. He was an invaluable asset in my ID team in Jakarta. Many of you will remember him as an avid Hasher and someone you could have a serious discussion with over a bottle of Scotch Whisky. These last few years Alan was battling cancer all the while continuing to live a normal life.

May he rest in peace.

Alan and Pascale were regular attendees at our ALLIANCE Schlumberger reunions and he took the central role in organising our Bilbao Reunion in 2023.

There will be a service to celebrate Alan’s life on Friday the 12th of December at 11am at the Crematorium de la Côte Basque-Biarritz, France https://share.google/pxJHsy6SdjRKFP2TI
