Although our BEEWASP gatherings are not an “official” part of Alliance Schlumberger they form an important part of life after SLB where our local retirees gather for a chat and keep in contact. New retirees have enthusiastically joined us.
The local camaraderie continues throughout the intervening year.
The simplest of formats makes this possible and I would encourage other centres of SLB retirees to consider a similar format as described here.
First. We have chosen an Annual Date with a probability of good weather, outside national events and school holidays – actually we have just changed ours to the Second Tuesday of November due Climate Change.
Second. Choose a quiet time of the week – Tuesday afternoons has always proven good for us. We start at 3pm and finish at Sunset – around 7pm.
Third. Location – a public site with Barbecues, tables, shelter, toilets and parking. We are blessed with many locally provided facilities in our city and surrounds.
Fourth. Strictly BYO – Bring-Your-Own food, drink chair, napkins etc – there is so much food a lot is shared around.
Fifth. Communication. Every year one person volunteers to find a site and email “The List” at least a month ahead of the location he/she has chosen. No replies necessary. No correspondence – or minimal.
Sixth. We advertise the detail of the location about 6 weeks in advance and also via AllianceSLB and Brother Reunited and use their help to update our email list.
