Martin Schmelz passed away on October 5, 2025 at the age of 88 years, in Wildeshausen, Germany.

Karl Frenes advised: Martin joined Schlumberger in July 1963, starting in Libya. The years 1964-66 Martin spent time with me in Emden, Germany, working offshore in the North Sea. Very memorable were some of our trips offshore in small boats in very rough seas.
After Emden Martin spent time in Great Yarmouth and mainly in South America. From there he left Schlumberger in July 1977.
Martin married the then secretary of our Emden office, Almut Visser, in 1966.
Almut passed away in December 2017.
Martin is mourned by his children Matthias, Gabriele and Mareike and their families.
Martin was very respected for his technical skills, his kind manners and his intellectual and ethical character.

Martin was a regular attendee at our ALLIANCE Schlumberger reunions, starting with the Pfronten, Germany reunion in 1995, with his most resent attendance on the Douro River cruise in 2021.
