Xavier Granier passed away peacefully in Scotland on Saturday 7th January in his 87th year.
Xavier joined Wireline in 1961 in Pescara, Italy, working across Africa, Asia, Middle East until he arrived in Aberdeen in 1980, where he remained, apart from a couple of years in Nigeria, retiring in 2000.
Murat Aksoy posted the following fitting tribute to Xavier, and numerous condolences can be found on brothersreunited.com:
With great sadness but much greater and honorable memories I would like to let you know that Xavier Granier has passed away last week. His Crematorium will be on Thursday 26th at 11:30 at Baldarroch Crematorium Aberdeen.
Xavier Granier was true Schlumberger blood, started his Wireline days a generation before me in 1961. Worked many different countries and positions and finally in our good-old day’s saying in Anadrill, “Skies opened up and he has seen the Light, left Wireline and joined Anadrill” in 1985.
He has been technical manager focusing on maintenance for Anadrill ever since, technically he has never retired.
Xavier has been a Pillar in making Anadrill a successful business of D&M today working on initial MWD M1 to MWD M3 and later on Powerpulse and LWD, making sure the systems get developed and sustained and reliability gets improved. Without few people like Xavier in those days we would have never achieved the results of today in directional drilling. Most slb Drilling folks of today might never even heard his name but they should learn his stamp on on the very reliable MWD/LWD tools of today.
I have many fond memories of Xavier from my assignment days in Aberdeen as an Engineer and later as an FSM. I will name few and those who wish can also contribute.
Xavier used to know each and every one of the MWD tool parts by serial number, modification status, its history and which rig they are on that day by hearth.
He used to call us Engineers who keep on breaking his tools as “you f…ers” with a great smile.
Friday lunch time weekly meeting discussions in Aberdeen to be able to get MWD and LWD tools assigned to our projects to ship on the last weekend boats was always a big fight; Xavier would always stay calm and find a magical solution for all of us.
His action at the hottest point of discussions to take his glass eye and clean it with his napkin was legendary and always calmed things down on the spot.
He used to work 24/7, always FIRST in the office, take the morning reports from the fax machine, make multiple copies and already taking action.
He used to bring his KitKat lover Labrador friend at every weekend and offer you a KitKat if he sees you stressed. His presence was enough for you to know you will find a solution to your problems.
He was a true Engineer, always believed in technology and never gave up, always believed there is a solution to every problem and proved this again again including winning his fight against cancer by using an experimental technique no one even heard of, you can read it at this link https://lnkd.in/gTg-wryj
Xavier we salute you with a Smile thank you
