Bernard Pierre Sayer – 11 April 2025

24 Apr, 2025 | Obituary

Nancy Sayer, ALLIANCE Schlumberger Board member, has informed us that her husband, Bernard Pierre Sayer, passed away peacefully on April 11th, 2025, at the age of 86. He leaves behind his two sons, Nicolas and Laurent, and four grandchildren.

Nancy writes:

“Pierre was a brilliant scientist (though he assured me he’d never win a Nobel Prize), with a wide knowledge of Literature and History. His over-riding quality was always thinking of others. A true “honnête homme”.

He was a lucky man, excited each day to go to work. After earning his PhD in plasma physics, Pierre worked at the Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique (CEA) where he pursued his work in this domain. He later studied collision between atoms, during which time he was “directeur de thèse” for several students. After a few years at the Ministry of Research, he finished his 35-year career at the CEA headquarters.

Pierre was honoured with the Ordre national du Mérite, which pleased him even though this totally unvain man never wore his blue ribbon on his lapel.”

Pierre attended reunions with Nancy until 2019, before illness prevented him from attending later ones.
