Gilles Coustere’s son Olivier advised that his father sadly passed away on 20th June 2026 at the age of 88 years, in Nice, France.

Gilles was born in Pau, France in 1937. He joined Schlumberger Wireline in 1964, attended training school in Baranquilla, Colombia, working across Latin America for the next 11 years, including Trinidad & Tobago, Venezuela, Barbados, Nicaragua, Suriname, Jamaica, Belize, Guyana, Honduras, Peru. Later career took him to UK in Aberdeen, then London, where he lived for many years. He became a Log Analyst and founded the Log Interpretation Centre in Aberdeen, Scotland, then managed Mexico City Centre for 2 years. He left Schlumberger in 1983 but came back in 1996 as a Senior Geophysicist with WesternGeco until his retirement in 2008.
