Claude Roulet – 31 July 2024

9 Aug, 2024 | Obituary

Sadly we have to inform our ALLIANCE members of the passing of Claude Roulet in Houston on July 31st.

“Annie and Claude at their home in Sarlat”

His close friend, Philippe Theys wrote:

“Claude graduated from ENS (Ecole Nationale Supérieure) in Saint-Cloud, France and worked for ten years at the CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research) in Orsay where he received a Doctorat d’Etat (PhD) in nuclear physics.

Claude joined Big Blue in 1980.  His first job was to fix some lose ends on Wireline tools.  He then moved to Anadrill engineering and put together a task force to build the LWD tools and business. He then joined Geco-Prakla Engineering to design modern surface seismic acquisition equipment and methods.

Afterwards Claude was involved in the coordination of European Affairs for Schlumberger at large, and was key in federating all the Service & Supply sector with the aim of developing collaborative R&D at European scale but with a global perspective thanks to his involvement with EUROGIF.

Then Claude worked with the Water Management Solutions group and with the Carbon Capture and Sequestration team, helping them with strategy development and technology selection. He also worked on hydrogen-related technologies, as a strong believer in the future of the hydrogen economy.

Claude’s expertise and energy will be sorely missed.  A colleague, Guy Goyeau, summarizes his attitude: the humility of a scientist, the audacity and determination of an engineer.”

Our sincere condolences go to Claude’s wife Annie, their two children and their families.

Though Claude was not a member of ALLIANCE Schlumberger, he was known by many of our membership for his substantial research and engineering contributions to the company over multiple decades.
